Boca Raton and Palm Beach make an appealing four-day South Florida getaway when the real goal is a great hotel, good restaurants and time by the water. The two areas have different personalities: Boca Raton feels more resort-focused, while Palm Beach has a polished, historic atmosphere with distinctive shopping and architecture.

I’d use one night in Boca Raton and two in Palm Beach, although travelers who would rather unpack once can use a single resort and visit the other area on a day outing. Your airport choice can influence the order, so compare Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale and Miami before booking rooms.

How to spend four days in Boca Raton and Palm Beach

Think of this as a long weekend that leaves room to enjoy the resort. A hotel with a wonderful pool or beach isn’t worth paying extra for if every day begins with a drive to another town.

Day 1: Arrive in Boca Raton and unwind

Transfer from the airport to your hotel, then enjoy the resort grounds or a nearby walk if you have energy. A stop around Mizner Park can give you a feel for Boca’s dining and shopping, but I wouldn’t reserve a long excursion on arrival afternoon. The beach and your first dinner are enough.

Why this works: South Florida road traffic and airport transfers can make a short-looking journey unpredictable. A relaxed arrival is still a good day even when the flight is late.

Day 2: Boca art or beach time, then Palm Beach

Spend the morning doing what suits you best. If you enjoy art, the Boca Raton Museum of Art offers a cultural option. If relaxation is the reason for the trip, use your resort facilities instead. Have lunch and drive north to Palm Beach at an unhurried pace.

Check into your new hotel and explore a few nearby streets. I’d leave the major Palm Beach walking and dining for tomorrow instead of trying to fill the travel day with sightseeing at both ends.

Day 3: Worth Avenue, Palm Beach architecture and dinner

Spend part of the morning around Worth Avenue and its beautiful smaller streets. Even without a shopping agenda, the area is enjoyable for architecture and a café stop. Continue toward the waterfront, then decide whether your afternoon is best spent by the hotel pool or at a museum across the bridge.

The Norton Museum of Art in West Palm Beach is a worthwhile option for visitors who want a cultural activity. A museum, a long lunch and one special dinner would be a satisfying full day without racing between multiple neighborhoods.

Day 4: A slow breakfast and departure

Enjoy your final morning around the hotel, then leave enough time for the airport. Palm Beach International may offer a convenient departure, but Fort Lauderdale or Miami could make sense depending on the available flights. I wouldn’t schedule another paid activity before an early flight.

Where I’d stay for a short South Florida getaway

The hotel is a central part of this itinerary. Compare whether you want a self-contained resort, a grand oceanfront property, or a smaller boutique base near shops and restaurants.

  • The Boca Raton: A substantial resort with several accommodation styles and leisure facilities. A good fit when the property itself is part of the reason for traveling.
  • The Breakers, Palm Beach: A classic oceanfront luxury resort with a broad range of amenities. I’d consider it for a celebratory trip where the grounds, pools and resort restaurants will be enjoyed.
  • The Colony Hotel, Palm Beach: A smaller, characterful property close to Worth Avenue. It suits travelers who prioritize walkable shopping and an intimate design-forward setting over the scale of a major resort.

How I’d choose: The Boca Raton for an all-in-one resort stay, The Breakers for grand Palm Beach luxury, or The Colony for boutique atmosphere and convenient shopping. Check which beach and pool access applies to your exact room category.

Restaurant ideas for the two areas

I’d book one special dinner in Palm Beach and keep the other meals flexible. That gives you room to enjoy the hotel rather than spend the whole weekend driving between reservations.

  • Dining at The Boca Raton: Convenient for your first evening if you’d rather stay at the resort. Compare its different dining venues and any advance booking requirements.
  • Buccan, Palm Beach: An energetic restaurant known for shareable contemporary American cooking, ideal when you want the restaurant to be the main event.
  • Grato, West Palm Beach: A relaxed but polished neighborhood choice on the mainland, useful for travelers exploring beyond Palm Beach Island.
  • Dining at The Breakers: Worth considering for a special resort meal, even if you choose another hotel. Verify the restaurant, access, dress code and reservation rules.

Menus and service times change, and some restaurants are easier to enjoy from one hotel than another. A shorter shortlist that fits the trip is more useful than a top-ten list that requires constant driving.

What I’d arrange before arrival

  1. The right airport. Compare flight times and ground transfers from Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale and Miami. The cheapest flight doesn’t always produce the easiest long weekend.
  2. One hotel or two. Splitting the stay gives you two different atmospheres; staying put means more relaxation and less packing.
  3. One priority dinner. Book any highly desired restaurant ahead, particularly for busy winter weekends.
  4. Resort inclusions. Ask what beach facilities, pools, classes or club spaces are available for your specific room and booking terms.
  5. Weather alternatives. A museum, spa or shopping afternoon is useful if a planned beach day is wet or windy.

How I’d tailor this trip

For a special occasion: Invest in a room you love and one excellent dinner. For design lovers: Stay near Worth Avenue and leave more time for Palm Beach’s streets. For families: Compare the actual sleeping arrangements and resort facilities before choosing. For travelers who want pure relaxation: Stay at one hotel all three nights and forget the second check-in.

I’d leave Miami for another trip unless seeing it is essential. Adding another large city to a four-day resort getaway can undermine the very reason you’re traveling.

Common questions about Boca Raton and Palm Beach

Can I visit both areas without changing hotels?

Yes, but plan for the actual road transfer rather than assuming they’re adjacent neighborhoods. One hotel saves unpacking; two bases give you more evenings in each area.

Which airport is most convenient?

That depends on your hotel and flight schedule. Palm Beach International often works well for the northern part of the route; Fort Lauderdale may be a practical alternative for Boca. Compare transfers rather than airport codes alone.

Do I need to schedule a full itinerary?

No. This is one of those trips where a beautifully chosen hotel can provide most of the experience. Two or three planned highlights are enough for many travelers.
